This is a photo taken from across the river from Fort William. It was taken the day after the flood, about 11 a..m. About 9 hours after the water peaked.
You can see the dark line, topped by white ice and snow chunks, about 1/2 way up the front of the pallisade. The road in front of the fort is still under water. There is still a considerable amount of debris, to the east of the main gate. Most of it is large chunks of ice.
You can still see some wigwa's in the native encampment. The derrick is still there, at the end of the warf, just in front of the main gate. The voyageur encampment, just east of the naval gate is gone.
